Look at how that cow pees, maw!

It's not that kind of P.
look at how that cow pees, maw!

I was surprised to come across this strangely-named legume last week.

It’s called the cowpea. It’s also known as southern peas, or (prolly better) known as black-eyed peas.

Now, I can imagine you frowning your frontal cortex into your baby blues.

“What has a hippety hop band to do with legumes, nuts, and nut butter,” I hear the lady in the back ask.

Nothing.

Absolutely nothing, lady in the back.

I don’t even know why you made that connection.

Any case, as I was saying before you so rudely interrupted me: the cowpea is a legume, which you can read about on my nut types blog post.

Apparently cowpeas are an ancient crop, and has been cultivated for thousands of years, starting in Africa.

I can’t vouch for that, cos I wasn’t here thousands of years ago. Not sure where I was on that day, but if you have a picture of someone planting cowpeas thousands of years ago, please send it my way.

But Africa is not the only place growing cowpeas. They’re found across the globe. Wherever you see a cow, you’ll definitely see a pee. If you wait long enough. Not sure if EVERY cow in the world is a marker for cowpeas, though.

Any case, you can find them all over Earth.

Cowpeas are stuffed with nutrition. Protein, fibre, vitamins, minerals. The thing is practically a sixpack-in-a-pea.

Because of their mild, earthy flavour, you can use cowpeas for all sorts of dishes, including salads, stews and soups.

So there you have it. Cowpeas. It’s not that kind, but it’s a lovely legume in any case.

No, we don’t use it it in our nut butter.

The reason I mention it on this blog is so we can start ranking for cowpeas, and hook people to visit our site so they can buy some nutritious nut butter, which contains macadamia nuts, cashew nuts, honey, salt and coconut oil.

All of our ingredients are either raw or natural, depending on the ingredient.

It’s a great on-the-run or on-the-pedal snack for runners and cyclists.

So buy some nut butter and bless your taste buds.
